This large rattan bread basket is hand-crafted and is intended solely for proofing bread dough; it is not suitable for the oven. It is designed for proofing approximately 1.3 kg of bread. The recommended amount of flour is 650 g (the sizes we provide refer to the baked loaf, and you will need about half that amount in flour). However, it's essential to test the capacity of your specific basket beforehand, as each basket is a unique handmade piece, and each type of bread and flour rises differently. There is also a difference between yeast bread and sourdough. Baking bread is a beautiful activity, but no one can guarantee that your first loaf will be perfect, even though we sincerely wish it for you. It simply takes some practice...
How to use a bread basket?
The woven basket is made from natural materials, so there may be uneven gaps between the individual rods; this is not a flaw. On the contrary, each basket is unique and will impart an unmistakable pattern and texture to your bread. Before use, dust the basket with flour to fill all the crevices. Be prepared for some flour to fall through the gaps, so it's a good idea to sprinkle the basket on a tray, work surface, or in the sink to avoid making a mess in your workspace.
Place the dough in the basket and let it rise. Before baking, gently turn the bread out and score it to create a controlled crack where you want it. Do not wash the basket, as this may cause it to mold. Simply dust it off and shake it out.
