We care about our impact on the environment and the world around us. We strive to minimize the environmental footprint of our business. That's why when packaging, we maximise the use of recycled and biodegradable materials. Your order might arrive in a shoe box, a toner cartridge box, or even brake pad packaging.
Dometa Zero Waste Ten Commandments:
- We reuse 100% of the boxes we receive from our suppliers – each month, we put hundreds of boxes and cartons back into circulation.
- In our neighbourhood, we found several companies that have no use for similar boxes and instead of shredding or incinerating them, they save them for us. We're glad to stop by and pick them up whenever we're in the area. We do this not only with boxes, but also with used cardboard tubes from wrapping films and cardboard corner protectors from furniture packaging.
- We have an agreement with cardboard and box manufacturers who let us know when an order doesn't turn out quite right. Usually it's a box that is not perfectly flat and straight, or doesn't fit exactly the product it was cut for. We rescue these boxes – otherwise destined for disposal – and put them to good use.
- When we buy boxes, 90% of our purchases are already used and recycled – we've found two suppliers who specialise in buying used boxes and reselling them.
- For padding, we use bubble wrap or air cushions that came with deliveries to us, and we try to minimise purchasing new, unused bubble wrap and stretch film.
- We collect undistributed promotional newspapers and discount leaflets from nearby supermarkets and hypermarkets. So don't be surprised if your order arrives wrapped in a Lidl promotion. (And we regularly pick up a box of discarded leaflets and sale flyers from beneath the letterboxes in the apartment block where we live 😊).
- For fillers, we use pieces from already badly damaged boxes – so-called cardboard shred – which would otherwise have no chance to prove their usefulness.
- We don't print invoices into packages and prefer to send them by email. It's faster, cleaner, and you'll always have it at hand...
- We support the community collection of paper and cardboard boxes, newspaper filling materials, and bubble wrap from people in our area – Karviná and the Ostrava region. That's why we've joined initiatives such as Reduca and Kamsním.cz
- We work with authorised packaging companies and organisations of responsible packaging manufacturers specialising in recycling and waste recovery. In the Czech Republic, this is Eko-kom (under registration number F00200256), and in Slovakia, Natur-pack under number 10841.
